After decades fighting against theX-Men, a powerful mutant is finally throwing in his lot with thehomo superiorheroes. The X-Men are no strangers to recruiting their enemies, but this latest recruitment has a dark edge, as it comes in response to a beloved hero switching to the dark side.

Made up of iconic heroes including Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit,Kitty Pryde and Wolverine himself, the Opposition are the X-Men in all but name, making history as Mikhail goes from villain to hero. Sadly, Mikhail’s hero turn is a result of Colossus turning to villainy, meaning thatthe X-Men are recruiting a powerful villain in exchange for losing a trusted ally.

Wolverine Has a New Boss
Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe is set in a reality wherethe villainous Maker used time travelto corrupt or de-power iconic heroes. Some of the heroes he turned to evil werethe X-Men’s Colossus and Magik, who rule over the territory known as the Eurasian Republic. The territory is used as a gulag for the world’s mutants, with the insidious Directorate X used to turn mutants into weapons for the regime.
This was the fate suffered by Wolverine, who has now been rescued and had his memories restored by the heroic Opposition. That puts him (and his old nemesis Sabretooth, also turned heroic) under the command of Mikhail Rasputin, who used to be the ruler of the Eurasian Republic before growing disillusioned with the Maker’s control over the planet and faking his death to fight back from the shadows.

Mikhail’s Powers Deserve Way More Exploration
Mikhail is an old enemy of the X-Men, and has a variety of incredibly powerful abilities. He is able to warp many different kinds of energy, unleashing powerful blasts and negating the powers of others, as well as enhancing his own strength and reshaping materials like rock and flesh.He is also capable of powerful teleportation, tearing holes in spaceand even creating pocket realities which he can use to transport an entire army. With these abilities, the Opposition are lucky to have Mikhail on their side.
TheX-Menfinally have Mikhail Rasputin on their side after decades of mainstream villainy, but with their overall goal being to take down his powerful siblings, they’ll need every ounce of his power to stand a chance.
