Minnie Driver star in the BBC ’s The Deep , a five - episode miniseries about a sub look for the depths of the Arctic Ocean for organisms that could produce biofuels , replacing our addiction on dwindling fossil fuel . But everything blend wonky .
The Deep premieres on BBC One on Tuesday , and it features an all - star stamp . In gain to Driver , there ’s Jekyll ’s James Nesbitt , plus ER ’s Goran Visnjic and Rome ’s Tobias Menzies . Watery plunderer beforehand …

The Orpheus ’ squad of scientist are on a mission to observe a renewable source of energy in the depths of the Arctic Ocean . The last squad who went died in cryptic luck , so the Orpheus crew are already feeling uneasy when a salvage inspector unexpectedly get together their mission . What does he experience about the fall behind crew , and who is he working for ?
According tothis article , the submarine sandwich is really search through the vent fields of theLomonosov Ridge . And there are others out there besides the Orpheus ’ work party — but did these others cause what happened to the previous team who disappeared ? Or are these mysterious others there to breed up what chance ? Driver trifle the submarine ’s headwaiter , whose chief engineer ( Nesbitt ) is mostly concerned with finding out what happened to his married woman , who was on the former submarine . And then disaster strike , and they get rescued by a huge , ostensibly mostly empty , Russian submarine sandwich .
Andhere ’s a new interview with Driver , in which she reveals that the dangers the zep faces include crush water pressing and stewing gases . And she describes her character : “ She reminded me so much of Ripley in Alien , and the whole affair was like the Abyss and State Of Play , action films and political thriller . It ticked all the loge for me and it would really have to , because it would take a lot to get me to work my little boy to insanely freezing Glasgow in the winter ! ” And she enunciate her character has to make scads of tough choices as the delegation slowly unravels , and she ’s “ compromise by what ’s go on . ”
It sound like playfulness time , with just enough hard science to justify diving into the “ claustrophobic zep adventure ” genre one more time . And it ’s a moderately great cast . No clue when it ’s come to the United States though .
