Egypt, however, is a pretty big place, featuring a number of expansive desert landscapes alongside some sprawling early civilizations and monuments. It’s fair to wonder just how big the world of Egypt inAssassin’s Creed Originsis, then, and luckily, we now have the answer. A recent interview withAssassin’s Creed Originsdirector Ashraf Ismail revealed that the upcoming game’s world will be plenty large enough for assassins looking to lose themselves in the splendor of ancient Egypt:
“If I compare [Origins] to previous games in the past, I don’t actually know the exact numbers…but I would say that it’s at least twice the size of Havana fromBlack Flag. At least.”

So whileAssassin’s Creed Originsis making smart changesto the franchise in terms of new gameplay and character development options, it appears that Ubisoft still prizes the game’s highly-detailed open world as one of the series' key features. Although it is beginning to be rarer for a game not to feature an expansive open world as one of its selling points these days, the fact is that Ubisoft is one of the industry’s best in designing these kinds of environments, and it wouldn’t beAssassin’s Creedwithout the ability to get lost for hours within digital history.
That being said, however, Ismail was quick to suggest that simply having a giant open world wasn’t what he believes “matters.” Ismail stressed that the team behind theAssassin’s Creed Originsstoryhas made each city feel unique, and that the narrative and depth of gameplay opportunities will be what sets the game apart from competitors. Time will tell, and we’re only a few short months away from finding out for ourselves, asAssassin’s Creed Originsreleases later this year.
Assassin’s Creed Originsreleases on Jul 20, 2025 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
