A new precision-frame weapon type arrives in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate.
Destiny 2’s upcoming reboot expansion,Edge of Fate, introduces a new heavy weapon type - the Crossbow. It’s a hard-hitting, slow-firing, precision-based weapon similar to Linear Fusion Rifles, but with a twist.
Bungie revealed this exciting new weapon type in its first Edge of Fate live stream, alongside a myriad of other new additions and changes. Destiny 2 seems to be undergoing a systemic overhaul in Edge of Fate, with updates like Armor 3.0 andDarkmatter abilities. The Crossbow is just icing on the cake. With that said, here’s everything we know about this weapon type in Destiny 2.
Crossbows in Destiny 2 have infinite ammo, even in PvP (theoretically)
One thing that separates Crossbows fromLFRsor any heavy weapon in Destiny 2 is that it can have infinite ammo, at least in theory. If your bolt hits your target, there’s an option to pick it back up and use it again. It means you can run an entire activity with a single bolt on your Crossbow if you want. Pretty cool, right?
What’s intriguing, however, is that it functions similarly in PvP. It also means that Crossbows are the first heavy weapon that can have infinite ammo in Crucible. However, there is a catch. In PvP, you need to get headshots to get the bolt back. It should open up exciting buildcrafting options, including one-shot PvP Crossbow builds for all classes.

Crossbows in Destiny 2 have bolt types: Explosives, Serrated
Crossbows don’t have magazines. Instead, they have different types of bolts. Naturally, each bolt produces a different effect. So far, Bungie has revealed two bolt types for Crossbows. These are Explosives and Serrated.
Explosive Bows explode after a few seconds, similar to Grenade Launchers. Serrated bolt types, on the other hand, deal bonus damage when you pull them out of enemies, which should make the entire experience more cathartic.
