If you’re looking to captain a pirate ship in Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones, you’ll definitely want to know if combat on land is an option.

Skull and Bones is not for landlubbers. You’ll find yourself sailing the Indian ocean, and only stepping foot on solid ground to interact with other characters, barter, or find treasure. There’s no land combat in Skull and Bones. Only naval battles in the vast blue seawhen this game launches.

Skull and Bones does not feature land combat

As the so-called spiritual successor to Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, you might be disappointed at the lack of land combat in Skull and Bones. Fighting in PvP, pulling off heists, and most mission objectives take place from the helm of your ship.

There are multiple hubs in Skull and Bones for you to shake off the sea legs. That’s as far as it goes, though. You can’t aim a pistol, swing a sword, or even board a ship. In fact, the latter is just a short cutscene that shows your crewmates pulling enemy ships in and looting.

You could look at it from both sides, as a good or a bad thing. On one hand, it may take away fromthe full “pirate experience"players are hoping for. On the other hand, it keeps things from getting too complicated, by just having one form of combat in the game.

Will there ever be land combat?

This is a great question that many prospective Skull and Bones fans have asked. Will Skull and Bones ever have land combat? This is unknown, but very unlikely. It is not the premise of the game, though Ubisoft could add it in at any point as a surprise.

A roadmap was deliveredprior to launch that showcased the first year’s worth of content drops. You can expect additional world events, more infamous pirates to meet, and tons of new cosmetics for your character and your ship. But nowhere did they mention any update that might include land combat.
