Map 1: Breeze
Map one of this banger match up gave us our first look at Breeze in the tournament. And G2showed us whythey picked it. Despite giving up a few early rounds to Shopify, G2 set a winning precedent. The whole team was fired up, including Petra on the Operator. It wasn’t long until they guaranteed themselves a lead at halftime. Their defensive side ended with an 8:4 score in their favor.
G2 Gozen kept it up as they swapped to attack. Another pistol round was theirs. And while SR fought for their rounds like they did at the start, it wasn’t enough to put a dent in the deficit. Thedefending champs made a statementon their map pick. They put up more rounds than all of SR’s other opponents combined to get ahead in the series and subsequently giving Shopify their first map loss of the event.
Map 2: Ascent
SR started strong on their map. The tooksome very quick roundsfrom G2 and looked unbeatable on their attack to begin Ascent. Gozen called a timeout in hopes of changing the tide. It allowed them to grab their first round of the map. And then another after that. That would be all their defense could muster up, with SRtaking a mighty leadprior to switching sides.
With halftime as an opportunity for G2 Gozen to compose, SR took it as an opportunity to keep their momentum swinging. Another two fast rounds went their way, and it was map point. With better weapons in the bonus, G2 hung on for just a bit longer, but that’s where they’d stop. Shopify Rebellionmade a statement of their ownto tie the series.
Map 3: Sunset
Map three, only the second time we’ve seen one at VCT Game Changers Championship 2023, was a much more balanced start. No one immediately got out to a large lead. Thingsstayed fairly closethroughout the first half. Shopify managed to jump ahead by just a couple, though, thanks some killer rounds by florescent and Noia.
The SR IGL meL then had a moment of her own,clutching out the pistol roundto extend her team’s advantage. A 3k by SR’s sarah pushed that lead further, sending Sunset toits second bonus roundof the map. Two rounds away from victory, SR gave up one to G2 beforeflorescent shut them downwith a huge 4k. At map point, that’s all she wrote. G2 Gozen falls to the Lower Bracket and Shopify Rebellion gets a day off as they reach the Grand Final.
