In recent years, the “gender reveal” trend has grown, with parents-to-be using everything from balloons to cakes to lasagna, shooting targetsand even alligators to learnthe sex of their unborn children on the way.
Some sex reveals have turned disastrous, including last fall when a family using a “smoke generating pyrotechnic device"sparked the deadly El Dorado Fire in California, according to authorities.
Jenna Myers Karvunidis, who blogs under the name High Gloss and Sauce, shared a scathing condemnation of the potentially dangerous trend in September as the wildfire raged on, writing onFacebookin part, “Stop having these stupid parties. For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid’s penis. No one cares but you.”
