So much so , in fact , that I do n’t think anyone call for to go back , whether it be character or viewers .
Mandalore has been a major point of pursuit — obsession may be a better word — forDave Filonisince he commence the Clone Wars cartoon in 2008 , and has continued to this Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , where he ’s more or less shepherding the entireness of the Star Wars TV universe . Mandalore featured in a major electric discharge in Clone Wars ; it was a major plot line in the Rebels cartoon ; and now it seems it ’s going to be the focus ofThe Mandalorian ’s third season , as Din Djarin ( Pedro Pascal ) gets enlisted to avail the deposed Bo - Katan and her fellow sect of Mandalorian warrior find ascendency of their hereditary planet .
Except as Djarin points out in season two of his idiot box series , Mandalore is “ cursed ” and “ everyone who goes there exit . ” He ’s not wrong . The story of Filoni ’s Mandalore is meet with demise , tragedy , end , vehemence , and more death . It technically start before the Clone Wars , during the ancient day of Old Republic , K of years before the events of the Star Wars moving-picture show . The Mandalorians were a warfare - mongering subspecies that frequently clash against the Jedi for C , smash most of the surface of their planet in the outgrowth . It led to a group of more peaceful “ New Mandalorians ” … that end up fighting the old - school Mandalorians , and burning the remains of the planet ’s grasslands into ash tree .

These civic war between the two cabal literally happened for millennia until Qui - Gon Jinn and the untested Obi - Wan Kenobi were sent to protect Mandalore ’s titular drawing card , Duchess Satine Kryze . She was part of the passive camarilla , and thus constantly target for character assassination by the other Mandalorians . As the Star Wars wiki puts it , this special war “ killed the majority of Mandalore ’s population ” before it was settled , and the radical Mandalorians were ban to the planet ’s moon .
These Mandalorians turned into a terrorist radical called Death Watch , who not only sided with the Separatists when the Clone Wars rolled around , but joined military group with Darth Maul and several criminal syndicates to reverse Kryze . They “ conducted attacks on numerous cardinal locations create mass panic and passing of life-time . ” finally , Maul accept control over part of Death Watch and the satellite , and successfully managed to assassinate Kryze in the process . So then a different faction of Death Watch — co - led by Satine ’s baby Bo - Katan — split off and rebelled against Maul and their blood brother . The result ? Yep , another bloody civil warfare until the Republic U. S. Army engage the Siege of Mandalore ( finally examine in Clone Wars season seven ) that eventually toppled Maul and put Bo - Katan on the throne .
Rough , correct ? We ’re not done . The fresh minted Empire reverse Kryze and took full control of Mandalore , kicking Bo - Karan to the proverbial curb bit , and create a puppet regime . But in edict to good subjugate its citizenry , the Empire created an Arc Pulse Generator that could instantaneously kill any beskar - wear Mandalorian . This was ruin by the Mandalorian Sabine Wren ( seen in Rebels ) during yet another civil war , during which Wren also joined forces with Bo - Katan Kryze and her people to reinstall her to power .
This winner would be lamentably dead - lived . The Empire realized Mandalore and its hoi polloi were far , far more worry than they were deserving . In what was later called “ The Great Purge , ” they get off their forces to dispatch every inhabitant and bomb every sign of refinement they could see . As the wiki so cheerfully points out , it “ chair to the near - total race murder of the Mandalorian people in what was afterward have it away as the ‘ Night of a Thousand Tears . ’ ” As The Mandalorian has shown us , Bo - Katan and a handful of her the great unwashed managed to flee , but now she wants Din ’s help to recover her major planet yet again .
But why ? What ’s left for her down there other than ash and bones ? As far as we know , nothing much other than an obsessive desire for bequest . But here ’s a better question : What ’s go away on Mandalore for us ? After watching the place get torn asunder over and over again , are there any write up provide on Mandalore deserving exploring ? We ’ve spent 15 years over three Dave Filoni - manoeuver series — Clone Wars , Rebels , and The Mandalorian — try the warrior refinement and how screwed up they are , and now the setting is tire out its welcome because it ’s so one - greenback . War , piles of death . Civil warfare , lots of dying . Empire invades , lots of death . What ’s leave for Bo - Katan and audiences to see in time of year three of The Mandalorian ? I ’m not a fate teller , but I find “ mess of death ” may be the end result . Again .

But let ’s not block that Lucasfilm Chief Executive Kathleen Kennedy say as recently as last class that they know Star Wars ask to move on from its past , and with Andor , and hopefully the upcoming Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte TV serial , the franchise will continue to do just that . Until then , however , one more visit to Mandalore is on Star Wars ’ itinerary . Still , I judge it ’s better than another trip toTatooine …
