We all need a little help sometimes. InRisk of Rain Returns, that help can come in the form of the Mu Construct, a friendly item you may find hidden away in the game.
The Mu Construct is found in the fourth variant of the Desolate Forest stage. It’s not easy to spot, unlike theEnvironmental Logswhich can be seen floating gently in some small cavern or atop a ledge. No, you may only find the Mu Construct inRisk of Rain Returnsby sniffing out a hidden path and following it to the item’s secret location.

The Mu Construct is a secret item you need to find to unlock inRisk of Rain Returns
It takes a bit of luck to get the item. Thankfully, if you don’t get the correct stage and variant, it’s quick to try again. The Desolate Forest is one of two maps that can spawn as the first stage inRisk of Rain Returns— the second one being the seemingly rarer Dried Lake. But you need to explore a bit to find out if you have the correct variation.
After starting at the Desolate Forest, head to the left part of the map. If you find a large cave coated in green moss, you’re on the right track. Exit the cave on the left side. Look for a geyser below the cave exit, which will launch you up toward a yellow vine.
Climb the yellow vine and stop at around the halfway point. Jump to the right and look for the hidden entrance in the wall opening. You’ll have to travel a long way, but eventually, you’ll make it to the cave where the Mu Construct is waiting. Grabbing it unlocks the item, the ‘Pre-Alpha’ achievement, and completes the challenge with the description: “Find this item hidden somewhere in the world to unlock it.”
What does the Mu Construct do other than float and be cute?
Once you find the Mu Construct and get it unlocked inRisk of Rain Returns, you may be wondering just how exactly it helps you out. Acquiring it in a run doesn’t cause the adorable bot to follow after you like its drone brethren. Instead, you’ll find it hovering over the stage Teleporter. Once you activate the portal, the Mu Construct follows you around while applying a passive heal.
It may not be much, but any assistance during the portal fight is certainly welcome.
