Kate MiddletonandPrince Williamare back in the Welsh hills.

With just over a week to go untilKing CharlesandQueen Camilla’scoronation, the Prince and Princess of Wales traveled to their namesake country of Wales on Thursday afternoon. They bundled up against the rain with warm coats, both wearing red — one of the colors represented on Wales' flag.

When they arrived at the bottom,Prince Williamand Princess Kate — who are dog parents to a cocker spaniel namedOrla— met the team’s border collies, Kizzi and Kassie, praising them with pets and head pats.

The Central Beacons Mountain Rescue teams, who handle emergency calls from stricken walkers, are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year.

After their activities alongside the experts,Prince William, 40, who is Patron of Mountain Rescue England and Wales, and Princess Kate met with current volunteers to hear about their roles and experiences in carrying out rescues.

Peter Morris, owner of the Little Dragon Pizza Van, who served the couple with colleague Shannon Stokes, tells PEOPLE, “The Princess asked if we make our own dough — and said that they love making pizzas with their children,” referring toPrince George, 9,Princess Charlotte, 7, andPrince Louis, 5.

“Making pizza for the future king and queen is surreal,” he adds.

The mobile pizza company regularly serves visitors to the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

“Prince Williamsaid he’d heard of us — which is quite surreal,” Morris says. “People come from far and wide — it’s the quality of the food and the views!”

He adds, “It’s fantastic that they’re here supporting the mountain rescue team on their 60th birthday. Those people put their lives on the line and it’s all in their spare time so it’s great that they’re getting recognition from the royals.”

Richard Doyle of the Mountain Rescue team, says Kate and William were “confident” rappellers.

“They did really well, they were really fantastic. And it was nice to show them what we do,” Doyle tells PEOPLE.

And the outdoorsy, athletic spirit is running in the family. “They mentioned that their children were getting involved in climbing too,” Doyle adds.

After wrapping their royal engagements for the day,Prince Williamand Princess Kate are staying the night at a local bed and breakfast.

Prince Williamand Kate have been gradually building in their knowledge and understanding of the issues that communities face across Wales since they becamePrince and Princess of WalesafterQueen Elizabethdied in September. Those close to them say the couple is passionate about deepening their relationship with Wales and acting as ambassadors for its people.
