Sony has released some interesting information about the most-playedPlayStation Plusgames of 2022, revealing the most-played classic games on the service. Earlier this year, Sony split itsPlayStation Plussubscription service into three tiers, essentially combining PS Plus with the defunct PlayStation Now. The PS Plus Essential tier gives players free monthly games and online multiplayer, while PS Plus Extra gives players access to a slew of PS4 and PS5 titles. PS Plus Premium, meanwhile, comes with all the benefits of the other tiers in addition to a lineup of classic games.
As revealed by Sony’s end-year wrap-up, the most-playedPlayStation Classics on PS Plus Premiumin 2022 wereMafia: Definitive Edition,God of War 3 Remastered,Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue,LEGO Harry Potter Collection, andTekken 2.Mafia,God of War 3 Remastered, andLEGO Harry Potter Collectionare all PS4 games, whereasToy Story 2andTekken 2are PS1 titles.
Most-Played PlayStation Classics on PS Plus Premium for 2022
This effectively means thatToy Story 2was the most popular PS1 gameon PS Plus Premium for 2022.Tekken 2is generally considered to be one of the best fighting games ever made, so seeing it rank so high isn’t all that surprising, but some fans may be surprised byToy Story 2’s inclusion. Licensed games from the era weren’t exactly known for being great, butToy Story 2may be an exception to that rule, with many fans looking back on it fondly.
Many fans have complained about PS Plus Premium dropping the ball with its classic games this year, so it will be interesting to see if Sony listens to that feedback and adds more classic games to the lineup for 2023. ThePSP games on PS Plus Premiumespecially need a boost, as many of the best games from Sony’s handheld have yet to be added. If Sony adds more highly-requested classics to PS Plus Premium, next year’s lineup could look much different.
