Sony has offered complex information pertaining to its recent announcement of a PS5 remaster ofMarvel’s Spider-Man, including details regarding the various upgrade paths to the web-slinger’s acclaimed open-world adventure.

Speaking in a statement to Kotaku, Sony confirmed that there isnoupgrade path that allows PS4Spider-Manplayers to receive the new PS5 remaster for free. PS4 players can upgradeMarvel’s Spider-Manto a PS5 version ofMarvel’s Spider-Manat no cost, but this is just a “standard” version of the game, andnotthe new PS5 remaster. With me so far?

PS4Spider-Manplayers wishing to pick up the PS5 remaster will need to first purchase the upcomingSpider-Man: Miles Moralesrelease, andthenpurchase a special “upgrade voucher” at the cost of an additional $20. Alternately, players can outright purchase theSpider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Editionon PS5 for $70, which includes both the PS5 remaster ofMarvel’s Spider-ManandSpider-Man: Miles Morales.

Sony has confirmed that there are “no plans” to offer a standalone release of the PS5 remaster. It’s also worth a reminder that PS4 save files for the originalMarvel’s Spider-Manwill not be compatiblewith the PS5 remaster.
