SwordArt returns to Weibo in LPL after unsuccessful LCS stint

SwordArt spent two years with Suning in the LPL before leaving to join TSM through a 2 year 6 million dollar megadeal, making him the highest-paid player in the LCS. However, while lucrative,SwordArt’s stint in North America was unsuccessful. Throughout his two split tenure with the North American dynasty, SwordArt failed to make the finals in both of his splits and ultimately missed out on a return trip to the World Championships.

Following the 2021 season, SwordArt was replaced on TSM byformer FPXBlaze support Shenyi. He will now look to capitalize on his first starting position in the main league.

SwordArt now enters the second year of his initial 6 million dollar deal. The former Suning (now Weibo Gaming) captain looks to regain former glory with his former teammates in the LPL for the 2022 season.

Who are Weibo Gaming?

Weibo Gaming acquired the LPL slot of World 2020 runner-ups, Suning Gaming following the 2021 season. Throughout 2021, Suning Gaming was unable to replicate the same success found in 2020. Suning failed to make top 4 in both Spring and Summer LPL splits last season. This, despite their roster being relatively untouched aside from SwordArt’s departure.

Moving forward into 2022, the team is left mostly intact once again, only parting ways with top laner  Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin. In his place, Weibo Gaming has picked up former Invictus Gaming star Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok to take over.
