The Game Awardstake place next week and they will be celebrating thebiggest and best games of the year. But more than that, the Geoff Keighley-hosted event will also feature some major reveals for some of the most highly anticipated games.
While the full slate of surprises and announcements won’t be clear until the event kicks off, a new trailer for the awards show has provided some pretty big hints. One person who features in the trailer a few times is Hideo Kojima, theMetal Gear Solidcreator who is now working on a brand new, ambitious IP namedDeath Stranding.
At around 32 seconds into the trailer, a clip from a previousDeath Strandingtrailer can be seen. The character played by Norman Reedus is looking at his hands which are covered in some sort of black substance that looks a little bit like tar. Then, towards the end of The Game Awards trailer, viewers can see a clip ofHideo Kojima picking up the icon awardfrom last year’s Game Awards event.
The Game Awards has a long history of working with Hideo Kojima and the famed game developer is also quite close with Geoff Keighley. It was during an interview with Keighley that Kojima revealed how difficult theworking conditions at Konamihad been.
Moreover, Kojima presented a newDeath Strandingtrailer at The Game Awards 2016. As the game skipped E3 2017 in the summer, last year’s Game Awards is the last time that fans had gotten to seeDeath Strandingand it would make sense if it made a return to the event one year later. All signs point to there being another majorDeath Strandingreveal at The Game Awards 2017.
Death Strandingco-star Guillermo del Toro recently revealed that Kojima was preparing to show him someDeath Strandinggameplay. Although it’s unclear whether that gameplay footage is fit for public consumption, fans could potentially be about to see a glimpse of the game in action.
It’s also possible that Kojima will reveal a brand new character for the game. Rumors have been circulating for quite some time thatEmma Stone is inDeath Stranding, but will Kojima confirm the speculation at The Game Awards 2017? Fans will have to tune in to next week’s awards show to find out.
