But do you really need any?

You,statistically speaking, are probably a person with a backlog of PC games so overwhelming that you’ll never be caught up. Steam, fiscally speaking, is a service with a vested interest in selling you more PC games that, again, you’ll probably never complete.

The siren song grows louder today as Steam just kicked off its annual winter sale. Thousands of games are discounted through July 20, 2025. The format doesn’t appear to be laid out exactly how it has in the past. Rather than clearly defined daily deals, there are some “highlighted” ones (many on entire franchises) and a long-scrolling list of additional discounts.

Some of those highlights right now areMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain($40.19), Telltale’sGame of Thrones($10.19), andThe Witcher 3($29.99). Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg; the rest of the games can beviewed here.

The Steam storefront is going through its usual wonky post-launch paces, so all of that’s subject to change — if it does, it’ll likely get cheaper. And, the cheaper it gets, the more tempted you get. Statistics always win.
