On April 9, Creative Assembly released a new trailer for itsThrones of DecayDLC forTotal War: Warhammer 3, finally showing off its contents after previously delaying it from its original winter 2023 release date.
This comes months after the studio announced it would bemaking changes toWarhammer 3‘s roadmapand apologized for failing to meet expectations with theShadows of Changeexpansion. There was a lot of fan discontent at the time withWarhammer 3(too much for us to meaningfully break down), but judging by the reactions totheThrones of Decaytrailer on YouTube, it seems this new batch of DLC has already won over plenty of players.
For anyone who’s been out of the loop, here’s a breakdown of what’s included inThrones of Decay, when it comes out, and how much it’ll cost.
What’s included in theThrones of DecayDLC forTotal War: Warhammer 3?
TheThrones of DecayDLC is made up of three separate packs: the Tamurkhan pack, the Malakai pack, and the Elspeth pack. Each one represents a different faction inWarhammer 3, and is named after a new Legendary Lord you can play as in both the Realm of Chaos and Immortal Empires campaigns. Not only that, but they come with extra units and gameplay mechanics.
The Tamurkhan pack, representing the Nurgle, includes Tamurkhan the Maggot Lord, a giant maggot who can possess people and is currently controlling the body of an ogre tyrant. His unique gameplay mechanic sees him recruit Chieftains from other factions, and he’s bringing with him the new Legendary Hero Kayzk as well as the Chaos Lord of Nurgle and Chaos Sorcerer of Nurgle as a new Generic Lord and Generic Hero respectively. In addition, this pack comes with five new units and three regiments of renown, such as mutated Plague Ogres and Toad Dragons.
The Malakai pack is all about the Dwarfs, with its Legendary Lord Malakai Makaisson leading the charge. Described as a ranged support character who makes use of guns, bombs, and other such artillery, Malakai was once part of the Engineer’s guild, but was kicked out and took up the Slayer’s oath in the hopes he’ll die a glorious death. He brings with him the Spirit of Grungi, a mobile workshop and transport vessel, which he can use to bolster his units. He’s also joined by Garagrim Ironfist (a Legendary Hero), plus an additional Generic Hero, a Generic Lord, five new units, and three regiments of renown.
As for the Elspeth pack, it features, as you can probably guess, Elspeth Von Draken, who represents the Empire. A powerful spellcaster who rides atop a Carmine Dragon, she has no less than three unique mechanics tied to her. The Imperial Gunnery School lets her research upgrades for her units, she can purchase exclusive and powerful units from the Amethyst Armory, and the Gardens of Morr allow her to travel instantly between friendly settlements. She is joined by Legendary Hero unit Theodore Bruckner, a Generic Lord, a Generic Hero, five new units, and three regiments of renown.
What is the release date for theThrones of DecayDLC forTotal War: Warhammer 3?
At the time of writing, Creative Assembly has yet to confirm a release date for theThrones of DecayDLC. All it’s said is that all three packs will be out this spring, so they should arrive before the end of May, barring any delays. We’ll be sure to update this article once a more concrete date is shared.
How much is theThrones of DecayDLC forTotal War: Warhammer 3?
Creative Assembly has yet to share how much each pack in theThrones of DecayDLC will cost. It has been said, though, you will have the option to purchase all three packs separately or in a bundle. So, for example, if you’re only interested in the Tamurkhan pack and don’t care about the other two, you may buy the Tamurkhan pack on its own.
