A bit later, you are able to unlock them for free via the Starr Road: the full release of Trunk in Brawl Stars is Aug 28.
Trunk joins Brawl Stars with a slight delay, as we expected them to be added to the game sooner, right after Ali the Alligator. The developers from Supercell have abandoned the idea of Early Access, so Trunk is the last character available via this program. Perhaps it means changes in the schedule of releasing new brawlers.
