The remake will release “when it’s ready”
Ubisoft has returned with another development check-in forPrince of Persiafans, and it sure seems like no one is getting off Mr. Bones’ Wild Ride. After multiple delays, the tumultuousPrince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remakehas officially changed hands — from Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune, over to its new steward, Ubisoft Montréal.
The publisher shared the newsin a tweet today, and it’s wild to remember that this remake wasat one pointsupposed to launch in 2021. More recently, we were expecting2023, though the wording in today’s message suggests there’s plenty of work left.

“The development ofPrince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remakewill now be led by Ubisoft Montréal, the very birthplace of the epicSands of Timetrilogy,” said the publisher.
“This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need toregroup on the scope of the gameto deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready,” continued today’s statement.

“We want to thank you all for your continuous support and patience throughout development. Rest assured, that we will update you on the progress in a future update.”
I’m still worried about this game
If the end result turns out well, it’ll be worth the trouble, but I’m not just convinced yet. Ubisoft recognizing thatPrince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remakewasn’t progressingas it should at Pune and Mumbai — and making the call to swap to a more capable lead studio — should be good news, in theory at least. It really comes down to how much time and money Ubisoft is willing to spend to get this remake right, and what’s considered “good enough.” I’d be anxious to see the sales projections, as it’sbeen a bitfor this series.
It’s a shame, isn’t it? I feel likePrince of PersiaandSplinter Cellfans shouldn’t be sweatingthis much, but given Ubisoft’s recent history, those concerns are absolutely justified.

I’ll be honest, a part of me wants to see everything come together so well that the edgy time capsulePrince of Persia: Warrior Withincan return with a bang. (I’m only half-joking!)
