As President Donald Trump addressed Congress Tuesday night for his third annual State of the Union, he looked out over numerous women dressed in white — most of them Democrats, but one of them wasTiffany Trump.
Given the one-sidedness of the color coordination, some speech observers were quick to wonder if Tiffany wasn’t making a subtle statement in agreement with her father’s opponents — or a fashion faux pas with an unintended political edge.
“Do you think Tiffany Trump planned to stand with #StateOfTheWoman in her white dress? Or…oops!” theTimes‘ fashion critic, Vanessa Friedman, wrote on Twitter.
The reasoning behind her clothing choice was not immediately clear Tuesday night, only fanning further speculation. Tiffany was in white at last year’s SOTU,according toUSA Today.
“Tiffany Trump [is] gonna give her dad a massive heart attack,” one usertweeted.
Another userwrote of Tiffany, “Why are you wearing white? Were you left out of the family group chat or is this some passive aggressive stunt?

While Tiffany, a 25-year-old law school student, has supported her father’s political career since his campaign, her relationship with himhas historically been strained, according to multiple sources.
She recentlywent public at the White Housewith her boyfriend,Michael Boulos, whose family is reportedly Lebanese and who grew up in Nigeria — in a region the president mocked last year as a “s—hole,” according to various news outlets.
“Tiffany’s not keeping her finger on the pulse of that BS,” the source said.
Donald Trump Jr.‘s girlfriend, former Fox News hostKimberly Guilfoyle, also wore white for the evening, according toa family photohe shared on social media of all of the elder Trump siblings, including Tiffany.
In his State of the Union, in contrast to his regular elbows-out style of rhetoric, the president stuck tightly to a more conventional script. In a characteristic early line, he told assembled Congressmembers: “Victory is not winning for our party. Victory is winning for our country.”
Later, however, Trump’s address returned to his chief concerns: restricting immigration and preventing further investigations of his family, businesses and administration. In other policy proposals, Trump called for national paid family leave and a ban on late-term abortions.
Earlier Tuesday, before calling for unity in his speech, he derided the Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer.
