According to a report by Dot Esports, Washington Esports Ventures are considering an acquisition of the Chicago CDL slot.
Washington Esports Ventures, the owners of Overwatch League team Washington Justice, have emerged as a frontrunner to acquire the Chicago CDL Slot from NRG Esports.
Washington To Enter The Call of Duty League
According to aDot Esportsreport by Jacob Wolf, this move, if successful, would see the Chicago team relocate to Washington D.C for the Call of Duty: Vanguard season. They will also be ditching theOpTicbrand, which looks set to be joining Envy Gaming, in favor them establishing an entirely new identity. This would then mark the third time that the team has rebranded since the inception of the Call of Duty League.
While there is no indication as to when this deal could close, signs are looking very promising that Washington Esports Ventures will be joining the CDL for the third season. However they still currently face competition from another, currently unknown, party who are also eager to enter the CDL for 2022. All we do know is that NRG are keen to sell the franchise spot for next season, so we hope to see more news regarding the matter sometime soon.

The Washington Esports Ventures group have been involved with Esports since 2018; following their acquisition of the Washington franchise slot for the Overwatch League. The group, which is led by Venturehouse Group CEO Mark Ein, bears a long established connection with the city of Washington D.C. Given how much they have invested already in the OWL with the Washington Justice, it will be interesting to see how they got on in the CDL should this deal go through.
